Monty Don makes sensational return to Gardeners' World as Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler are dropped
Viewing numbers have fallen again for this programme, which is really aimed at amateurs, but loved by many. Geoffrey Hamilton was the nation's favourite, but when Monty took over last time viewers dropped from 4.5 million to 2 million. The programme has lost even more ground, despite having 'proper' gardeners presenting. Monty has upset many in the profession with his attacks on commercial horticulture, so has few friends within the industry. It will be interesting to see how the BBC manage the show going forward.
